“Procrastination is the natural killer of success opportunities.” – Victor Kiam
Have you ever heard from a potential business partner: “I need to think about it”? Or: “This sounds like a pyramid scheme”? Or perhaps: “I don’t have time” or “I don’t have contacts”?
This is completely normal. But do you know what lies behind these excuses? And – more importantly – how to respond to them so you don’t lose either the business opportunity or the relationship?
Key Lesson: What is Assertiveness in Network Marketing?
Assertiveness is the ability to navigate difficult communication situations. It means saying “no” to stereotypes and responding logically, calmly, and concretely. It is also the ability to distinguish genuine objections from mere excuses.
In relationships, in business, in conversations with potential partners – it’s often not about what we say, but what the other person hears and understands. Everyone can interpret concepts like “business,” “MLM,” or “financial freedom” differently.
5 Most Common Objections and How to Handle Them:
1. “I need to think about it”
What might be behind this statement:
- People are afraid to say “no” directly
- The offer might not have fully convinced them or was unclear
- One key element might have been missing
How to respond assertively: Instead of getting irritated, ask: “Okay, I respect that you want to think about it. But tell me – how did you understand this business? What do you think it’s about?” Or ask: “On a scale of 1 to 10 – how would you rate this proposal? How much do you like it?”
2. “This sounds like a pyramid scheme”
This is a stereotype worth calmly debunking by explaining the differences:
“To me, network marketing is an inverted pyramid. In a classic pyramid, people at the top collect but give nothing. In good network marketing, people ‘at the top’ help new individuals, share strategies, provide mental support, and offer tools and ready-made systems. It’s a model where leaders pull people up from the bottom – they don’t keep them there.”
3. “I don’t have time”
“I don’t have time” is not a fact – it’s an excuse based on low priority. Each of us has 24 hours a day. Priorities determine how we spend that time.
How to respond assertively: Flip the perspective and consider: What would have to happen for this person not to say “I don’t have time,” but rather to ask for the opportunity to act? They would have to see immense value and inspiration in your proposal.
4. “I don’t have friends/contacts”
This objection rarely stems from facts – it’s more often a mental block resulting from:
- Shame of being ridiculed
- Fear of being perceived as a pushy salesperson
- Fear of others’ judgment: “What will my friends think?”
Assertive response: “Thousands of people have passed through our lives. You have contacts on Facebook, Instagram, at school, work, in your family, at the gym… People have contacts – they just don’t see them. Or they don’t treat them as potential.”
5. “I don’t have support/people hate on me”
Often, our closest ones say: “Why do you need that?”, “Get a real job,” “That’s some kind of scam.”
How to respond assertively: Instead of arguing – talk about your emotions: “Hey, when you say that, it hurts my feelings.” “I feel like my opinion isn’t important to you.” “I value your support, and I feel like you’re not supporting me.”

Remember – objections are not enemies, but rather clues about what the other person needs to make a decision. Follow these three principles of assertiveness:
- Never treat an objection as a personal attack
- Ask questions instead of convincing
- Inspire instead of pressuring
Don’t let objections – yours or others’ – block your growth and your business.
