In network marketing, we put a tremendous amount of energy into acquiring new customers. Over the years, I’ve watched people lose them. Even if they truly wanted to buy again, they… forgot their password, something failed in the system, or simply no one took an interest in them, so they went to the competition.
How do you ensure your customers don’t just come back, but do so happily and regularly? This is one of the most important skills that separates an amateur from a professional building a stable, recurring income.
Sales is Problem Solving
Many people associate reordering with being pushy. We need to change that mindset. In your mind, replace the word “need” with the more practical word: “problem.”
People buy you first, and only then your product, service, or idea. Your customers are going to spend their money anyway. If not with you, then somewhere else. Your job is to show them that by spending it with you, they are getting the best deal. You just need to offer the best solution to their problems.
Three Steps to Building a System
Before you take action, you must have a solid foundation:
- Build a registered customer base – It is most profitable to build a base of customers who are formally in your organization (buying for themselves). You have access to their history and can track their activity.
- Establish a form of communication (the contract) – Before you suggest further purchases, you must have permission. This gives you the green light for contact based on trust.
- Set contact schedules (the system) – Plan your work rhythm. Establish a system, write it in your calendar, and stick to it.
Key Moments That Build Loyalty
- Your work doesn’t end when the package is shipped. What you do after the purchase determines whether the customer returns.
- Unboxing together – Call the customer when they receive their package. This way, you eliminate the risk of error, build your position as an expert, and have an opportunity to upsell.
- Monitoring product usage – Note the estimated “end date” in your calendar and schedule a contact one week before that date.
Elements That Build Repeatability
- Educational meetings and cross-selling – Meet with the customer and tell them more about the brand philosophy. This is the perfect time for cross-selling—if they use supplements, tell them about skincare from the same line.
- The power of groups and experts – Use a private group for customers. Post results and information about promotions there. Invite them to meetings with experts—people love gaining knowledge, and this strengthens their desire to buy.
- Reward loyalty – Set a simple rule (for direct-sale customers): “A customer who places 4 orders with me receives a gift worth X.” This motivates consistency, and you don’t spoil the market by lowering prices.
